Higher Education Institution of Glass is located in The Royal Glass Factory of La Granja. This Glassworks was a factory owned directly by the royal family. Placed in the near of the Palace, this historical building is a must-see for any La Granja visitor. With the oldest parts dating to the year 1770, it contains some of the most important industrial architecture of the 18th century in Europe.
This Factory was built by order of Charles III, between 1770-1784. The task of designing it was officially assigned to Joseph Díaz, aka Gamones. The work was finished by the architect Juan de Villanueva. This building, of rectangular shape, has a basilical plant, with a nave and two aisles, separated by transversal annealers. It was entirely built with granite blocks and refractory bricks for the vaults and domes.
